Be A Mentor

Any faculty, staff, or administrator volunteer must have at least a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent (TAMU policy states that eight years of work experience is an equivalent to a baccalaureate degree) to serve as an ATMentor. When you volunteer to be a Mentor you agree to:

  • Provide one or more extra office hours each week for students who “just want to talk with someone”

  • Be a good listener and effective helper and to work with all students in a professional and caring way

  • Advise students in your area of experience and competence

  • Be informed about current Texas A&M services and refer students to these services as needed

  • Participate when possible in meetings designed to improve Mentors’ abilities to help

  • Inform students about the ATMentors program and the availability of individual Mentors
